NEW NIH FUNDING FOR SSOGI DATA COLLECTION

In October 2016, NIH declared sexual and gender minority (SGM) individuals a health disparity population for research purposes. While an increasing number of studies have documented cancer disparities affecting SGM populations, such studies have been limited by small sample sizes and lack of objective data capture about cancer diagnoses, treatment, and outcomes. The ReACH SGM Lab proposes to help fill this gap by scaling up sex assigned at birth, sexual orientation, and gender identity (SSOGI) data capture among active cancer patients and piloting the addition of SSOGI to breast cancer health equity EMR data reports within the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center in the Northwestern Memorial Healthcare (NMHC) health system. The ReACH SGM Lab has recently received funding from the NIH to begin the scale up of the this data collection
